In the build up to the Comprehensive Spending Review, we have been working hard alongside the TUC to get our message out regarding an alternative to massive and deeply damaging cuts in public sector spending and consequently the Fire Service.
We have been arguing for a much stronger emphasis on fair taxation in addressing the deficit and especially on the implementation of a tiny Robin Hood tax on big financial transactions by Banks which could raise billions of pounds each year. This would target the greedy and treacherous banking system that triggered the crash in the first place as opposed to destroying vital public services like the Fire Service. This message has been well received in both the media and the political level.
Please click here for a link to the BBC Politics West Show where the question was put to the public “Tax Bankers or Sack Firefighters?” As you will see, the public unanimously agreed to tax bankers!
Further information can be found on the Robin Hood Website, and the campaign also has a Facebook Page.
