Dear Brother/Sister,
MODEL LETTER TO MP’S ON FLOODING
First of all I would like to congratulate all members for their hard work and dedication over the past weeks in protecting communities from the floods that have devastated vast swathes of the UK.
The FBU have consistently raised with the government (both this one and the last) that currently there is no statutory duty on the fire service to attend such incidents in England and Wales. The service is not paid to train, equip or send firefighters to flooding incidents. Such an anomaly has been recognised and corrected in Scotland and Northern Ireland, but still exists in England and Wales.
The FBU has raised the matter through our Parliamentary Group and in meetings with Ministers. Now is the right time for all Westminster MP’s to be lobbied using the attached letter to impose this statutory duty. Please send it to your MP and inform your branch/brigade officials of any response you receive.
An email version is also available on the FBU website.
Many thanks.
Yours fraternally,
MATTWRACK
GENERAL SECRETARY
