TO: ALL MEMBERS CONTROL [England and Wales]
Dear Brother/Sister,
Information on the New LGPS 2014
The new Local Government Pension Scheme 2014 opens tomorrow, 1 April, and brings changes for many existing scheme members in England and Wales.
This new scheme was agreed by the majority of trade unions with LGPS members but the FBU opposed the proposal due to concerns on two key areas. Firstly the FBU did not agree with the proposal that members working in fire controls could be expected to work until state pension age and secondly that the revaluation rate with the accrual rate did not provide the best outcomes for FBU members.
This decision was taken following a consultation with affected FBU members.
Unfortunately, despite our opposition, the proposals were accepted and the scheme will be in place from 1 April 2014.
Members may not be aware of all the changes they face and how it affects them individually.
The government has recently updated the Local Government Pension Scheme website to attempt to answer many of the questions that have been posed and to try and provide a comparison between current arrangements and those that will be in place in the new scheme.
